Case Study: Matthew Stevens

The Project

Appointed by the Principle Contractor - Projectlink Ltd, JTM were contracted to provide all the groundworks to create an operational Freezer building for Matthew Stevens of St Ives, Cornwall.

The Process

Before commencing, we cleared the site of all unnecessary debris to allow the marking out of a site that was tight, in-between 2 operational buildings in the height of summer in Cornwall! This task required a high degree of considerate construction with prior day briefings to all the affected businesses as to avoid any difficulties going forward. Ground reductions and altering the foul and storm drains completed, the excavations could commence.

It didn’t take long for the infamous Cornish rock ‘Granite’ to appear in various boulder sizes and causing various difficulties of problems. Soon these were overcome and footings poured to everyone’s delight.

Installation of 2 separate attenuation tanks were completed with all the necessary drainage including a flow control chamber to comply with planning regulations. Radon sumps and venting installed, along with the radon barrier taped damp proof course.

Dwarf walls built and steel mesh tied, holding down bolts secured in place and now for the concrete slab pour. You guessed it, middle of summer, heat wave throughout except the slab pour day! Boom pump pour completed and the slab finished thankfully in the dry, eventually!

More block work built, this time as retaining wall to allow level alterations and therefore easier access and parking to the front of the building. Channel drainage completed and inspection chambers installed were now finished to the correct heights. The final concrete pour meant by the time we had finished, there wasn’t a centimetre square that hadn’t been concreted on the entire site!
