Case Study: BV Dairy, Shaftesbury

The Project

Instructed by Projectlink on behalf of the client, provide groundworks for 2 additional buildings along with a new tanker receiving area, chemical storage and Silo bund.

The Process

All the areas had to commence with the removal and disposal of the existing concrete yards and raised areas. Existing drainage and communication ducts had to be diverted and new drainage installed as required. The first building had a traditional concrete footing with a concrete block wall with radon vents. On top of this, a Commerical grade block and beam floor and on top of this, we installed a reinforced power floated concrete floor with 2 lorry dock leveller positions at one end. Next we created a heavily reinforced concrete lorry approach road with channel drainage and a reinforced cast retaining safety wall. The second building was built on a ring beam footing with reinforced cast concrete walls and infilled with 803 stone compacted in 150mm layers. A radon barrier/Damp proof membrane laid beneath a protected 300mm reinforced power floated concrete floor with stainless steel channel drains. The silo bund, new tanker bay and chemical store areas had a element of concrete casting to capture and contain drainage as well as receive prefabricated buildings for a later installation. Armco barriers were also installed to segregate pedestrian from vehicular movements.
